The Waffen SS or Armed Schutzstaffel would have gone down in History as one of
the finest military fighting forces of all time. Their bravery in battle and refusal to give ground
was legendary. Though there tactics were sometimes called reckless by the
Wehrmacht Generals, it was, victory or death.
The SS was the only fighting force to drill with live ammunition and they had casualties during War games.
This training under real combat conditions not video games and dummy ammunition was
crucial to the cohesive unity and brotherhood of the SS.
They could weed out the men that might fail under pressure.
Modern war games are like playing paintball. If you know you can't be killed how is it
like real combat conditions.
They were the first to wear camoflauge uniforms, they were laughed at by the regular German Army.
Now Camo is standard issue for all Armies.
But the actions of the SS that guarded the Concentration Camps is the main reason that the SS has a bad wrap. Actually the Concentration Camp Guards were put there as punishment.
If they violated regulations, rules or standards they were sent there.
These were not the cream of the SS they were the lowest element and their actions
reflected on the whole of the SS. Just as you have today elements in the Military, Police
and the like that violate protocol, there always will be those type of people.
Whether sanctioned or not. This is why they all were not hanged.
